Beijing – May 8th, 2020 – SenseTime, a world-leading artificial intelligence (AI) company, co-led the development of the recently-published IEEE Std 2790-2020 Standard for Biometric Liveness Detection (or “the Standard”), which will elevate biometric security across all applications and sectors by improving the detection of biometric spoofs and protect consumer data.
91视频网The use of biometric authentication technology such as face recognition is now widespread in daily life due to the increasingly mission-critical nature of smart mobile devices and the need to secure applications like mobile banking and payments. But this has also spurred an increase in attacks and compromised security through biometric spoofs and the trend of lifeless attack presentation. This occurs when attackers present lifeless presentations of identity such as a photo to circumvent biometric systems.
91视频网Thus, the demand for improved identity authentication standards has become increasingly important. The Standard, codeveloped by entities including China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, China Electronics Standardization Institute, Alipay (China) Technology Co., Ltd and SenseTime, will act as a foundation for biometric liveness detection through which lifeless attacks can be specified, detected, and subsequently categorized and analyzed for biometric system performance.
IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity. Its standards are trusted and applied around the world for over a century.
91视频网Specialized in computer vision, SenseTime identifies and analyzes potential threats to enhance biometric security. Its liveness detection technology is applied across various industries including smartphones, smart locks, face recognition access control, and online banking. Mr. Zhang Wang, Vice President of SenseTime stated, “By co-leading the development of IEEE Standard, we hope our technologies and experiences in the biometric liveness detection could benefit the society.”
